Case Study:
Springs Valley School Auditorium
The Problem
When Springs Valley contacted us, they had several big issues they were facing. First, their analog sound system was outdated. The volume was very inconsistent across the auditorium and even at low volume feedback was a constant issue. They had 6 wireless mics and needed at least 20 channels of wireless for plays and other performances. The second problem was the room itself. All of the walls and floor are concrete which created an echo chamber effect reducing intelligibility in the room. Lastly The video system needed a complete refresh. The old DLP halogen projector was not bright enough, the under-sized projector screen was no longer going up and down, and all of the video signals were VGA.
Sound: We replaced their analog mixer and snake with an Allen and Heath SQ7 digital mixer with 2 digital stage boxes cascaded, giving them 32 inputs on the stage and 32 in the booth. We installed 2 lockable racks on the stage holding 22 Shure SLXD mics. For sound reinforcement, we hung 2 JBL CBT1000 line array speakers which allowed us to steer the sound away from the concrete walls and deliver crisp full sound to every seat in the auditorium. We also put 2 Yorkville es18p 2400watt 18” subs under the stage and made custom wood grills with baffles to cover them. Lastly, we provided 4 QSC K12.2s for onstage monitors.
Video: We installed a da-lite tensioned 16 foot wide motorized screen with an 8000 lumen laser projector to provide bright high definition video. We also designed an Atlona Velocity IP based control system that allows screen and projector control as well as video input switching from a custom 8 button keypad on the stage and in the booth.
Acoustic Treatment: To combat the high levels of flutter echo in the room, we installed 40 2ft x 4ft acoustic panels which reduced unwanted echo, increased the speech intelligibility, and greatly reduced the feedback issues in the room.
